Nudged by China, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is ready to hold ‘closed door’ consultation on Pakistan’s plea regarding revocation of Article 370 in Kashmir by the Indian Government on August 5.
Opposing India’s move, Pakistan requested many countries to intervene the issue. When none of them got interested, its ally China, one of the permanent members at UNSC, asked the organization to entertain the request of Pakistan.
Pakistan Foreign Minister days before had penned letter to UNSC President Joanna Wronecka appealing to hold a session on India’s decision to scrap Article 370 and reorganize the state Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan alleged that India’s such move would affect regional peace.
According to sources, the UNSC is likely to start the session at 10 am (UN time).
