India’s Foreign Minister Jaishankar Defends Arm Deal with Russia on US Visit

Oct. 01/2019 – Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, defended the country’s arm purchase from Russia despite possible threat of sanctions by the US government.

During his US visit, Jaishankar stated that the decision of arm purchase from any country is solely New Delhi’s right. The discussion between India and the USA regarding Russian S-400 purchase is underway.

“We have always maintained that what we buy — the sourcing of military equipment — is very much a sovereign right,” Jaishankar told reporters just before a meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, news agency PTI reported.
