Autos without FASTags to Pay Twice at Toll Gates from December

Nov. 22/11 – Making the system fully automated, the government has planned to levy a charge nearly twice as toll fees from the vehicles having no FASTags from 1st December.

FASTags are a kind of prepaid rechargeable tags prepared for toll collection, which allow automatic payment from the linked accounts with the FASTags. Those vehicles don’t have to stop at the toll gates for payments. The tags are normally affixed on the windscreen of vehicles.

The Highway Ministry has declared that all the toll plazas across national highways will implement FASTags enable payment system from December beginning. According to senior government officials, all efforts are being made including encouraging the vehicle owners to ease the automatic process.

While one hybrid lane will be allowed at every toll plaza to facilitate and monitor over-sized vehicles where FASTag and other modes of payment will be accepted, it will eventually be phased out, the officials said.
