Cracks in Maha Alliance Govt. on Elgar Probe Matter

Feb. 19/20 – Discontent in the alliance government ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ in Maharashtra becomes visible over the investigation in the Elgar Parishad case. Partner NCP demands to form an SIT to look into the matter while CM Uddhav Thackeray is sticking to his decision of allowing the NIA to take over the probe.

Besides, Shiv Sena has already given its support for the Center’s National Population Register setup plan to which both its alliance Congress and NCP are opposing hard.

Recently during his visit to Konkan, the CM stated that the Koregaon Bhima and Elgar cases were different and the former cannot be transferred to the Center as it is associated with the Dalit community and they need justice at any circumstance.

Reportedly Pune police complained that inflammatory speeches were made at Elgar Parishad on December 31, 2017, which resulted into caste based riots at Koregaon Bhima on the following day. To punish the culprit, the state government has already setup a panel for investigation.

On the other hand, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar clarified that his party was demanding probe in neither cases rather an investigation of the way the police were misused.
