Unnao Rape Accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar Gets Life Imprisonment

Mar. 13/2020 – Expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was awarded life imprisonment by a Delhi Court for raping a woman in Unnao in 2017. He was also directed to pay a fine of Rs 25 lakh within a month.

On hearing the case, the court said, “the convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar is hereby sentenced to undergo imprisonment for life, which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of his natural biological life in terms of Section 376 (2) Indian Penal Code.”

While District Judge Dharmesh Sharma was requested to be lenient in awarding punishment, he stated that Sengar was a public servant and he betrayed the faith of people, so the court did not find any mitigating circumstance.

The court further directed the 53-year old convict to pay an additional amount of Rs 10 lakh to the mother of the rape survivor. To ensure security to the family members, the CBI was asked to review the possible threats around them every three months.
