First Coronavirus Case in Odisha; Govt. Shuts Malls as Preventive Measures


Mar. 16/2020 – Odisha witnesses the effects of Corona outbreak since it reported the first case on Sunday. Soon after finding the symptoms of Coronavirus, the man has been admitted to Capital Hospital who returned from Italy. 

Subroto Bagchi, Odisha Government Spokesperson on Covid-19, confirmed the patient has been tested positive. The 33-year-old came from Italy on March 6 and was put in self-quarantine in Delhi. On March 12 he boarded a train for Bhubaneswar and reached the capital city on the very next day. He had been suffering from headache and fever, so to get recover, he went to Capital Hospital and was found positive after being tested his blood and swab samples. 

The doctors who are treating the patient at the hospital stated that his health condition is stable. However, the state government is looking to collect data of all those who were travelling with him by the train. Also his family members has been asked to remain isolated.  

In a bid to fight with the pandemic, the Odisha Government has issued a notice to all public places like shopping malls, tourist and religious sites in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to shut down up to 31st March.
